Why are you a PT? I was inspired to become a physical therapist when, at the age of 16, I injured my knee and had surgery. I went through rehabilitation for 3 months in order to return to playing softball and dancing. Through this experience, I learned the important role that physical therapists have for true, functional recovery. I have wanted to help others heal from their injuries ever since.

I got beaten up a lot and had to learn how to bounce back, when I found physical therapy in high school it was a perfect example of how I wanted to help others overcome their setbacks. I’m always looking for ways to challenge myself as an athlete, provider and learner; PT has given me an ability to help others achieve their goals through a variety of means.

Aaron Spivey

Doctor of Physical Therapy, Texas Director & Director of International Operations

Undergrad: Oregon State University. Bachelors in Exercise Sports Science
Graduate Education: Northern Arizona University, Doctorate in Physical Therapy

Professional Experience: Before working with Matt to establish the PT3 model, including pioneering PT3 International, I worked in a number of therapy settings including: sports medicine, outpatient orthopedics, acute rehab, skilled nursing, home health and hospital-based. This experience provided valuable insight into the continuum of physical rehabilitation and the importance of continuity of care.

Why are you a PT? I was introduced to physical therapy after sustaining a knee injury in young adulthood. My experience as a patient sparked my interest in the profession, which blended my fascination of human kinetics with my passion for teaching. While undergoing physical rehabilitation, I learned not all physical therapy was created equal. I found the common link between quality service and substandard care was time. The time a therapist had to provide hands-on treatment, the time a therapist took to educating me on each aspect of my care, and the time a therapist spent getting to know me as a person (not simply a diagnosis). That experience years ago helped structure my clinical practice today, and in the process taught me to appreciate both the art and science of rehabilitation.
